409 Collector Cars Changed Hands in Just Two Days, March 11-12
WALWORTH, Wis. – March 15, 2016 – Mecum Auctions’ momentum into 2016 continued in Kansas City, Mo., last weekend following the company’s highest-grossing sale in history held this past January. The auction house’s annual spring auction held March 11-12 at the Kansas City Convention Center saw a total of 572 vehicles cross the auction block with 409 classic and collector cars hammering sold for a strong 72-percent sell-through rate. Auction sales totals reached a grand total of $10,212,687—a 15-percent increase over last year’s Kansas City event—with top sales crowned by a factory four-speed 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback, which gaveled for $210,000.
The Kansas City Convention Center has long been one of Mecum’s staff and customers’ favorite venues at which to hold auctions with ample space for all-indoor events. Able to comfortably accommodate the near 600 vehicles at this year’s event as well as the thousands of auction attendees made for another epic auction experience that area enthusiasts agree is a can’t-miss.
The sale of the 428 Cobra Jet-equipped Shelby GT500KR (Lot S106) was just one of many auction highlights, as a 1,000-mile 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe (Lot S138.1) demanded a hammer price of $185,000 and another Shelby, a ’67 GT500 Fastback (Lot S120.1), brought $170,000.
